Dress The Pirie's!

The group costume we have chosen for Donald and his family is The Little Mermaid themed!
Since Donald said his son wanted to dress up as a mermaid we thought this would be perfect!

First off is Ursula!
This costume is £94 and the make up would take it up to about £120
The make up for ursula is really fun to do, here's a really good tutorial on how to create her look

Next is Ariel!

Not much make up for this, other than the basic girly makeup and a long red wig (on ebay)
If you want a really good costume, prepare to pay up to $100
and the red wig is here for £449.99! (yikes)

And finally for Donald, King Triton!

This one is amazing, hope you look good in blue Donald!
The make up for this could be just some basic old man, wrinkled make up.
You can find all of the accessories on ebay, even some fake abs! This costume could cost well over £150 if you're splashing out on a good tail and accessories.

Pretty cool Halloween make up idea!

I've seen quite a few youtubers do this look for Halloween tutorials and I think it's pretty cool and fairly easy to do! The picture is fairly self explanatory but it's a real life comic book character!
You won't need to spend too much money on this look, you'll need black liquid eyeliner, a selection of face paint and any comic book-like outfit. I'd say you wouldn't have to spend more than £20, if that. Most people can find all the stuff in their house.  If you wanted to go all out then you could buy yellow hair spray and cover your hair then style it into a fixed position like this. All you gotta do is cover yourself in white or red dots and outline your face and main features with eyeliner OR black face paint, colour your lips red with a highlight, add a few bright blue tears and you're good to go!
I think this is a great look for Halloween, and certainly something a bit different! I might try it out and post a picture of it at somepoint this week
Here's a few youtube tutorials you can watch, all different styles so you have a bit of choice!

Everyone should have this in their make up bag!

This is a pretty easy decision for me, it's a definite must have and such an amazing product!

It's....drum roll please.....Collection's Lasting Perfection Concealer!

This stuff is a god send for under eye circles, blemishes, highlighting, the lot! I use it everyday and have recommended it to so many people. I think the best thing about it is that it's only £3.99! It's bragged about all over the make up world by so many MUA's and beauty gurus (they prefer it to a lot of the high end concealers) which is what made me try it about a year ago! I've been hooked ever since, can't tell you how many tubes I've gone through. It's an absolute steal and perfect if you're on a budget. It still amazes me how good quality it is, perfect amount of coverage without looking cakey on the skin. It comes in 3 shades, some would say that's not very good but they're good shades which match most peoples skin tone!
You can get it in most beauty shops or online here! :)

You can watch one of my favourite blogger Zoella's  youtube video where she raves about this product here! It's about her favourite products if you want to watch it all but if you just want to skip to the concealer then go to 6.33 mins in!

For my second choice it's gotta be YSL's Touche Éclat Radiant Touch, I agree that this is an amazing product, little bit pricey but if you're willing to splurge on yourself a bit then go for it! It's an amazing highlighter, if you're into contouring then you'll love it, or if you've just lost a few hours of sleep and don't want everyone to see it in your face! YSL are a high end company, but you can't deny that their products are very well made, everyone should have a YSL product in their collection!

Top 5 examples of make up in films I love!

Edward Scissorhands

I like the ghostly look of this make up, the latex used for his scars stands out more with the paleness of his skin. There's something very endearing about him as a character with his dark hair and deeply contoured eyes.

The Dark Knight

Some people think that The Joker's make up in the dark knight is a pretty boring look but I think otherwise! There's a lot of detail gone into his scars and the make up itself is supposed to seem like he's done it himself messily but I think it's brilliant! They even yellowed his teeth for the role!

A Nightmare On Elm Street

One of horror's greatest boogeymen, Freddy Krueger gains a lot of impact from the awful facial disfigurement he incurred after being burnt alive. David B. Miller created this look by researching real life burn victims! In my opinion he is definitely one of the scariest characters in horror! This movie was in 1984 and I didn't realise how well done the special effects were a few decades ago!

The Wizard of Oz (1939)

An entire fantasy world of witches, munchkins and flying monkeys! Due to the sheer number of prosthetics used in the movie MGM actually had to set up an assembly line for applying all the make up and special effects to the actors and extras! I love the make up in this movie because there's so much of it. It's all incredible but Buddy Esben (the original tin man) took a really bad reaction the make up used on him! Poor guy!

The  Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (and the hobbit too!)

Last but not least, my favourite films of all time! While the most famous creation, Gollum was entirely computer generated, everyone else required extensive make up and prosthetics. From furry Hobbitses to the grotesque Urak-Hai it was all so well done. Fun fact - the hobbit feet had to be damaged when removed so new ones were made every time. There had to be around 1,800 feet made for just the four principal hobbits! Crazy huh?

Task 3! Questions!

What were your expectations on starting the course?

I was expecting the course to be really interesting and I was right! I'm loving it so far and I'm looking forward to the rest of the year, definitely exceeded my expectations!

What are your initial thoughts on West College Scotland and the Media Make-up course?

I really like the college apart from all the construction work and how far away it is from my house! It's worth the travel to study something that I'm interested in. I can definitely see myself continuing from this course onto a higher level!

What is your funniest moment of college life so far?

Has to be some of my lecturer Donald's stories, they kill me haha!

What is the most interesting thing you've learned how to do so far?

Doing all the special effects make up with the wounds and gore! It's amazing how real it can look, think I'm gonna be popular amongst my friends at Halloween!

Who is your make up idol?

Kat von D for sure! She's amazing! She's a tattoo artist/singer-songwriter with her own make up collection (which is beautiful). Always looks incredible and has accomplished so much in her life and she's only in her twenties! I can only hope for a fraction of her success!

Why do you want to be an MUA?

I'd like to have my own photography/mua business, sort of like a package deal. For example, for weddings if someone didn't want to pay for a photographer and a make up artist then it would kill two birds with one stone for them! I would do all the bridal/bridesmaids make up then do all the photography. Although, this course could take me in all different directions! I definitely want a career in Canada though, would be a dream!
