Top 5 examples of make up in films I love!

Edward Scissorhands

I like the ghostly look of this make up, the latex used for his scars stands out more with the paleness of his skin. There's something very endearing about him as a character with his dark hair and deeply contoured eyes.

The Dark Knight

Some people think that The Joker's make up in the dark knight is a pretty boring look but I think otherwise! There's a lot of detail gone into his scars and the make up itself is supposed to seem like he's done it himself messily but I think it's brilliant! They even yellowed his teeth for the role!

A Nightmare On Elm Street

One of horror's greatest boogeymen, Freddy Krueger gains a lot of impact from the awful facial disfigurement he incurred after being burnt alive. David B. Miller created this look by researching real life burn victims! In my opinion he is definitely one of the scariest characters in horror! This movie was in 1984 and I didn't realise how well done the special effects were a few decades ago!

The Wizard of Oz (1939)

An entire fantasy world of witches, munchkins and flying monkeys! Due to the sheer number of prosthetics used in the movie MGM actually had to set up an assembly line for applying all the make up and special effects to the actors and extras! I love the make up in this movie because there's so much of it. It's all incredible but Buddy Esben (the original tin man) took a really bad reaction the make up used on him! Poor guy!

The  Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (and the hobbit too!)

Last but not least, my favourite films of all time! While the most famous creation, Gollum was entirely computer generated, everyone else required extensive make up and prosthetics. From furry Hobbitses to the grotesque Urak-Hai it was all so well done. Fun fact - the hobbit feet had to be damaged when removed so new ones were made every time. There had to be around 1,800 feet made for just the four principal hobbits! Crazy huh?

Task 3! Questions!

What were your expectations on starting the course?

I was expecting the course to be really interesting and I was right! I'm loving it so far and I'm looking forward to the rest of the year, definitely exceeded my expectations!

What are your initial thoughts on West College Scotland and the Media Make-up course?

I really like the college apart from all the construction work and how far away it is from my house! It's worth the travel to study something that I'm interested in. I can definitely see myself continuing from this course onto a higher level!

What is your funniest moment of college life so far?

Has to be some of my lecturer Donald's stories, they kill me haha!

What is the most interesting thing you've learned how to do so far?

Doing all the special effects make up with the wounds and gore! It's amazing how real it can look, think I'm gonna be popular amongst my friends at Halloween!

Who is your make up idol?

Kat von D for sure! She's amazing! She's a tattoo artist/singer-songwriter with her own make up collection (which is beautiful). Always looks incredible and has accomplished so much in her life and she's only in her twenties! I can only hope for a fraction of her success!

Why do you want to be an MUA?

I'd like to have my own photography/mua business, sort of like a package deal. For example, for weddings if someone didn't want to pay for a photographer and a make up artist then it would kill two birds with one stone for them! I would do all the bridal/bridesmaids make up then do all the photography. Although, this course could take me in all different directions! I definitely want a career in Canada though, would be a dream!

My tippy top favourite male make up artist!

So, I'm gonna write a little post about Wayne Goss the make up artist mainly known as gossmakeupartist. He's actually amazing at what he does. I found him on youtube a few years ago and I've been hooked ever since! (Here's his channel!) He gives the best beauty tips, what you should and shouldn't do if you have a certain skin type or eye shape. He just brought out his own range of make up brushes (little pricey but worth it) that look absolutely incredible Take a look and buy them here!. Really hoping to get my hands on some of them when they are released!

A little more about Wayne himself, he's 35 year old english guy with knowledge on make up that would put most artists to shame! He has nearly 600 videos on youtube that are all amazing! he's really dedicated to his work and it shows in all the videos. He has just over 1 million subscribers but I think he should have 10 times that! So honestly, go subscribe to him and have a gander through his videos, you wont be disappointed! You can follow him on Twitter here too!

Here's a few of his videos, this one is about knowing your eye shape and how to work with it
if you fancy a face like Kim Kardashian?
looking for a great new liquid foundation?
There's so many more but you can see for yourself on his youtube channel! :)

Fancy a good beauty app?

There's this App that I use called BeautyLish, I actually love it haha! It's really good for ideas, there's tons of reviews and posts that can help if you're looking for something in particular, and lots of photos that people post! You can buy products through the app aswell (although it's all in dollars so I'd rather just find the product on a UK site to save any hassle). It's amazing for video tutorials! I think with Halloween just around the corner it will really come in handy for some good ideas!
I'm not sure if it's available for Android yet but it's free to download from the apple App Store. So get downloading, you won't regret it (I promise you will be addicted). Give them a wee follow on Twitter aswell!  Follow their twitter here! They're on google too! +Beautylish

M.A.C

Just a wee blog post about one of the NASMAH suppliers (NASMAH is a professional, social and educational organisation They encourage the highest standards in the craft of media hair and make-up, and work hard to promote their members)

Mac cosmetics are a very prestige/high end make up company. I think even people who don't use make up will have heard of them. Their make up is widely used and amazing quality (its just a wee bit pricey, but so worth it) most people swear by some of their products!

I'm slowly building up my own collection of their products (their lipsticks are to die for!) and would love the opportunity to work for mac in the future (employ me pleeease)
They bring out different collections throughout the year, one of my favourite singers brought out her own range aswell (Hayley Williams from Paramore) its mainly all bright orange! to match her signature hair-do
loveloveloveit!
